CHARLESTON, S.C. – Ania Hertel advanced to the second round of the ITF Hilton Head 15K, while the Georgia women’s tennis team concluded the 2021 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championships in Charleston, S.C., in the consolation bracket.
After her first-round match was delayed 24-hours due to rain, Hertel, the four-seed, defeated Alessandra Crump in dominating fashion. She won 6-0, 6-3. Hertel is set to take on Aran Teixido Garcia in the second round Friday at approximately 9:00 a.m. ET. Garcia is a junior at Memphis.
Mai Nirundorn also competed in Hilton Head. The freshman fell to Elizabeth Scotty 6-3, 6-0, Thursday in the first round prior to the weather delay. Scotty is a junior at North Carolina. She currently ranks No. 82 in the ITA rankings.
No. 15 Meg Kowalski and No. 19 Lea Ma both competed in the main consolation draw of the 2021 ITA All-American Championship. Kowalski fell 6-3, 6-4 to Tulsa’s No. 74 Laia Conde Monfort, while Ma lost to Pepperdine’s No. 13 Victoria Flores 6-4, 6-3.
“It’s always good to compete with the top players in the country,” said Georgia associate head coach Drake Bernstein. “We lost some tight matches and definitely learned where we need to direct our attention in practice next week.”
